the song storyI have a very dear friend, Nel Dekker, who has been a prayer partner for more than a decade. On a journey through Cambodia, she snapped a sunset over the Mekong River. She framed it and presented it to me as a gift.
Knowing her relationship with God, the minute I saw the picture, I knew there was a song in that sunset. A song telling of the majesty and wonder of a mighty God. All creation is joyfully heralding the coming of the King. This declaration is at the heart of the song. Like all our songs, they are subject to revisions and rewrites. During one of our Tuesday prayer sessions, Ferdinand Hausler was sitting near the keyboard listening to the original version when, lost in the presence of God he said, "It's a sweet, sweet sound. It's the sound of Heaven." Over the next several weeks we worked with these words so that they became an integral part of the song, and eventually, the title and thrust of the piece. |
