Beholding the one
Worship is about relationship. Worship is about an exchange. Worship is about declaring the truth about God and His Word. Worship has many expressions. Praise and worship are more than a good idea. They are mandates straight from Heaven. Praise and worship are the gates through which we enter the throne room of God and behold Him in His glory.
In the Western Church, we are typically used to a particular 'style' of corporate worship. It's usually declaratory and involves the congregation as a whole rather than focussing on the individual's relationship with God. This style of worship is entirely appropriate and a great experience to be with fellow believers, united in praise and adoration of our incredible God.
There are, however, other expressions of praise and worship that are less well unitised, primarily because they are governed by a need to invest the one thing we seem to lack. Time. Time is the cost if we are to move from the corporate expression of worship into moments that are interactive encounters with the Lord and with each other.
A Worship Conversation is about exploring these elements of music-driven worship. In a full day workshop, Andee Sellman and Renée Rutherfurd explore the many expressions of worship; praise, worship, prayer and the prophetic, soaking and declaration.
We use the word 'conversation' rather than 'encounter' or 'experience' deliberately. Conversation implies a relationship with ongoing dialogue; a flow of communion, a discourse that builds over time. In fact, the origin of the word 'conversation' is in the Middle English term that means 'living among, familiarity intimacy'.
We become who or what we behold. More than that, we take on the nature of the One with whom we spend time. Broadening the scope of worship, even in a musical sense, extends the range of contact, allowing for a fuller and deeper relationship with the Lord. It also follows that the parts of His nature that each of us was designed to represent can find their most authentic expression if we connect with Father, Son and Holy Spirit in a variety of ways.
Over the course of the day, we take time to talk about and experience a variety of worship elements and expressions. These include; thanksgiving, celebration, declaration, prophetic, and ending with a soak and share time. In everything, connection with the Lord is the constant. It is His presence that changes everything. We become the 'thin place'; where Heaven touches down, where we are the expression of Jesus in the earth. We discover the power in the praise and the intimacy of the atmosphere.
